There are 2 main changes to design rules in Protel DXP, the way the rule scope is defined, and the fact that the

rule priority is user defined.

In Protel DXP rules are scoped by writing what is called a query. A query is a text string that defines the set

of targeted objects. For more information on queries refer to Item 3431.

When you add a new rule in DXP it is automatically assigned the highest priority for rules of that kind. To set

the priority in the PCB Rules and Constraints Editor, select the rule Type in the tree on the left to display all

rules of that kind (Clearance for example), then click the Priority button at the bottom of the dialog.

The highest priority rule has a priority value of 1.

To confirm that a rule scope has been defined correctly set the PCB Navigator panel to browse by Rules, then

click on a rule in the list.
