英文有一种腦筋急轉彎的問題，采用自問自答的方式，並不要求別人回答，只是為了製造一些笑料。这类脑筋急转弯的问题称为riddle，而且有許多是和語言文字有关的。例如你问別人：

How do you make a witch itch?
怎樣讓女巫发痒？

对方可能会朝「搔痒」之類的方向去想，不过一旦听到你的答案后一定會大呼上当，但也不得不佩服這個答案很巧妙：

How do you make a witch itch?  
Take away her W.
把她的W拿掉。

原來to make a witch itch，也可以解释为「把witch变成itch」。所以把witch這个字拿掉一个w，不就变成了itch嗎？像这样的问题既要你认识单词，也要你懂得文法，不过学起來有趣多了吧！
